Posted by | November 09, 2012 | E-Waste, Permanent site, TechCollect | No Comments

Today Australia and New Zealand Recycling Platform Limited (ANZRP) officially launched its TechCollect Program in NSW at the Randwick City Council Recycling Centre in Matraville. Randwick City Council is TechCollect’s first permanent New South Wales service and the fifth TechCollect service in NSW to date; TechCollect has delivered 14 collection services across Australia and is on track to deliver at least 124 services nationally by 31 December 2013. We have NSW events this weekend at Mt Kuring-gai and next weekend at Meadowbank.

The TechCollect Program is a free service for the general public and small business to drop-off their unwanted televisions and computer products for recycling. TechCollect delivers on ANZRP’s vision of creating a community which collects, processes and safely recycles electronic waste for responsible environmental outcomes.

Mark Mackay, Chairman of ANZRP said, ‘We are serious about product stewardship, the environmental outcomes of recycling end of life TVs and computers and the health and safety of the people involved in the processing of e-waste are integral to the success of the scheme. Our program is based on sound practices and standards and experienced operators; it results in the capture of finite resources for reuse and diverts product from landfill’ said Mark.
Officially launching the TechCollect Program in NSW were Senator Don Farrell, Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and Urban Water, the Hon Peter Garrett, AM, MP, Member for Kingsford Smith, Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth, and Cr Tony Bowen, Mayor of Randwick.

ANZRP CEO Carmel Dollisson said, ‘The partnership of TechCollect and Randwick City Council is a great example of industry and local government working together to deliver sustainable environmental outcomes for e-waste that supports community needs and interests.’ ‘We are delighted with the support we have received from the team at Randwick City Council and we look forward to a long term relationship with Randwick and other Councils who are interested in safe, sustainable solutions to recycling e-waste’, she said.
