The TechCollect program is predominately delivered by partnering with local councils. Located 10km east of Melbourne’s CBD, Boroondara has been a TechCollect Collection Partner since 2012. Prior to this Boroondara was a key site in the technology industry’s trial Byteback™ program, funded by 13 AIIA eSIG members and managed by Sustainability Victoria.
Partnering with TechCollect has allowed Boroondara to offer their residents a free, easy and responsible way to recycle their e-waste, with a free TechCollect drop-off point located at the Boroondara Waste & Recycling Centre.
Prior to these programs Boroondara had to charge residents to drop-off their e-waste, so not surprisingly the TechCollect program is very well received and highly valued by the local community.
Because the long-term partnership has also enabled Boroondara to improve the level of service to its community, it was awarded a 2011 Waste Management Association of Australia National Transfer Station Excellence Award, and consistently rates very highly in the annual Local Government Satisfaction Surveys.
“Boroondara is a progressive Council that strives to provide leading edge waste and recycling services to its community. We’re proud to be in partnership with TechCollect, which helps us provide an efficient e-waste recycling service,” said Sam Di Giovanni, Coordinator Waste Management, City of Boroondara.
